What is "Offensive"?

In my fanlisting rules, I state that I will not link to offensive websites. Unfortunately, the word "offensive" is arbitrary, changing in meaning from person to person. As such, I felt it was important to express exactly what "offensive" means to me, and thus, what sort of links I won't share on any of my sites or fanlistings.

Many thanks to Danae Cassandra, who I believe was the first person to make a page like this, and whose page inspired me to write up one of my own.

Hatred

I will not link to sites which promote hatred in any form against groups of people, animals, or the environment. This includes racism, ethnic hatred, sexism, homophobia, religious hatred, animal abuse and environmental abuse. Hatelistings are okay, and the hatred of non-living items is okay. The hatred of particular celebrities, politicians or other figures in the public eye is also okay, provided that the website in question doesn't incite violence towards that person.

Religious Persecution and Evangelism

I will not link to sites which promote a particular religion or religions as the one and only valid religion, or those which use it as a reason or excuse for bigotry. Websites containing religious information or discussion are okay, providing they don't promote hatred towards any religion or members of any religion.

Sexual Content

Sites containing pornography will not be linked. Pornography is defined as the usage of nudity or sex as combined with abuse and/or degredation of the human beings in question (more information here). As such, sites involving rape, child pornography, bestiality, or any other degrading sexual acts will not be linked. I am, however, more than happy to link to sites containing erotica, in which all works are free of bigotry and are respectful to all involved. Erotic artwork and fiction (including fanfiction) is okay, whether it be het, yaoi, or yuri. I prefer to give the genres of shota and loli a wide berth.
